SouthWind Destinations: Botswana

The Locale

Botswana has been long held as one of the premier hunting destinations in the entire world. Exotic Botswana’s defining geography is the Kalahari Desert which covers approximately 70% of the nation. While much of the landscape is arid sandy veld dotted by scrub savannah and large saltpans--the life-giving Okavango river flows into the country from the North West and creates a massive wetland covering 16,800 kilometers that gradually disappears into the desert. Resident in the Kalahari are the bushmen, undoubtedly the best trackers in Africa. Hunting with a bushmen who is able to read the tracks like a book is an unforgettable experience. The area is well known for big Kudu, Gemsbuck, Springbuck, Eland, early season Elephant Bulls and the feisty Leopard.
