The Locale

The South African Zuluand is truly a sight to behold. Just north of the Dolphin Coast, the malaria-free Zululand runs up to Richard’s Bay along the north coast and inland into the rural heart of KwaZulu Natal. Lying beneath the subtropical sun, Zululand is marked by peaceful, green hills, waving grasslands, thickly abundant forests, unhurried lifestyle, and a soil infused with the spirit of the Zulu nation who battled for this land. It is an area rich in symbolism and tradition, and the age-old Zulu culture remains today. It is in this very tradition where your hunt begins.

The Accommodations

The Mpunzi Lodge will keep you well both before and after the hunt. Port Elizabeth game lodge Mpunzi is situated in the Elands River Valley in the Eastern Cape. Mpunzi, meaning a Cape Duiker, is an ancient farmhouse converted into a lodge. You’ll immediately recognize and enjoy the history of this eclectic, yet modern, resort. This self-catering accommodation situates eight people comfortably. The facilities are fully-equipped with bedding and towels supplied and fully-serviced with a chef and housekeeper in attendance. There are four bedrooms and double lounges with fully-stocked bar and cozy fireplace.

The Hunt

You’ll thrill in the hunt of various medium-sized plains game unique to the South African Zululand. Set your sights on certified trophy--the native Red Duiker, Nyala, Kudu, Eland, Waterbuck, Sable, Buffalo, Rhino and, of course, trophy warthogs. Each of the areas of the country offers a unique habitat ideally suited to each plains game species and holding its own special challenges for you. You’ll hunt in a style all your own--from the walk and stalk, to glassing from a blind with bow and arrow.
