When Wingshooting In South Dakota at Rooster Ridge You Will Need:Weather and What To Bring The weather in Chamberlain, SD changes with the season. Expect temperature ranges to vary from 25F to 75F. It is recommended to check the weather channel link prior to your departure to determine your weather conditions. Bring along your favorite shotgun. Be sure to bring good, comfortable hunting boots and rain gear. We also recommend nylon, canvas or leather fronted brush pants. Ear and eye protection is essential. If you are bringing a dog, you will need a portable kennel for transportation. Along with your trip confirmation you’ll receive a fully detailed list of what to bring.
As the weather is unpredictable in the fall it is suggested to always bring a waterproof hunting jacket or outer shell. The temperatures can range widely from 20 to 80 degrees so it is best to check just before you leave to have a better idea what to plan for. For cooler weather layering is the best way to go as you can take off or add when needed. Hunting boots are one of the most important things you will need and be sure to have waterproof boots and to break them in well before you come. You will most likely be walking a lot so new boots can be extremely painful if they are not broken in properly first. Another key will be socks, be sure to bring plenty and wear two pairs if possible a thin sock next to your feet and then a heavier pair as that help wick the moister away from your feet and keeps blisters down as well. As we are working up, brush buster pants are strongly suggested with waterproof pants even better. Remember you will be walking through CRP grass and grain fields early in the mornings so there will be dew or heavier moisture if it snows or rains. Again thinking cooler weather, be sure to have gloves that will fit the conditions, think waterproof as well as, you never know. Now lets talk safety, be sure to have a blaze orange coat, vest or hat. This helps other hunters see you and safety comes first. Be sure to have shooting glasses and earplugs as well as these are fundamental when shooting especially shotguns in a group. Ok that should cover your hunting wear, now for the lodge it is always casual while you are at the lodge so be comfortable and do not forget the bathing suit for the hot tub. If you are bringing a child under 21 years old, you need to bring his hunter safety card and SS card for his permits.
